Keith Olbermann Donations To Democrats Lead To Suspension

Keith Olbermann Donations To Democrats Lead To Suspension – MSNBC superstar Keith Olbermann, was suspended indefinitely without pay for having contributed financially to the campaign of three Democratic candidates in this week’s midterm elections.

Olbermann admitted that he gave $ 2,400 each to the campaigns of Jack Conway (Kentucky), Raul Grivalva and Gabrielle Giffords both from Arizona. Politico broke Olbermann donations story, late Thursday.

MSNBC does not allow employees to endorse and make donations to political campaigns unless they receive special permission from the network.

Keith Olbermann Suspended

Olbermann defended his actions in a statement, “I did not privately or publicly encourage anyone else to donate to these campaigns nor to any others in this election or any previous ones, nor have I previously donated to any political campaign at any level.”

Countdown With Keith Olbermann, that airs at 8 pm on weeknights, is the most popular show on MSNBC in a very competitive cable news environment dominated by Olbermann longtime nemesis Fox News Bill O’Reilly. Olbermann has also co-hosted the midterm election night coverage of the network this past Tuesday.

MSNBC announced that Chris Hayes from left leaning Salon will replace Keith Olbermann on Countdown Friday.

Was it fair to fire Keith Olbermann? Isn’t this a form of hypocrisy? Is this the beginning of a new era in the opinion cable news industry?
