SAG Awards 2011 Winners

The SAG Awards 2011 which took place last night at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles brought out the shiniest Hollywood stars and put the spotlight on Betty White who won Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her new show Hot in Cleveland.

White, 89 who was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Screen Actors Guild in 2010 managed to beat Sofia Vergara, Edie Falco, Tina Fey, and Jane Lynch, said after given her trophy :

“It was the biggest surprise I’ve ever had in this business.”

Colin Firth and Natalie Portman won best actors for their roles in the critically acclaimed films “The King’s Speech” and “Black Swan”.

As for the prizes to the best performances in a supporting role they were awarded to Christian Bale and Melissa Leo who co-starred in “The Fighter.”

And as predicted by many entertainment crtics the emotional and moving film “The King’s Speech”, a British production of Tom Hooper which focused on King George VI of England’s speech problems, won the award for best cast.

In the television department the series “Boardwalk Empire” won best drama, and “Modern Family”, was awarded best comedy.

Steve Buscemi won the award for best actor in a TV drama for his role in “Boardwalk Empire”, while Julianna Margulies was rightfully given the trophy for Best Female Actor in a Drama Series for her role as Alicia Florick in “The Good Wife.”

In the category of best comedy actor, Alec Baldwin won for his role in “30 Rock” .

Al Pacino and Claire Danes won for Best Actor in a TV movie or miniseries for “You Do not Know Jack” and “Temple Grandin”, respectively.
